How to Put Trunk Fasteners Back in Place

  • #1

After almost damaging the plastic on my lower fairing, the pushpins finally pried out.. the radiator guard is on, a little bent to get the tabs and screw holes to line up.. and the push pins won't go back in.

Is there a tool I'm missing?

Those clips look hosed. If they are, as they appear, like Honda's you push the center piece IN to release it and to reset it you push the center rod UP (so the center pin ends up protruding) then click it flush after you insert it to lock it in place.

It doesn't take much force, just the right technique. I suggest you look up the size of the clip and replace them.

to remove them you push the center pin in till it clicks (about 8 to 10 mm below surface)

to re-install push the pin from the inside out till it sticks out past the surface about 8 to 10 MM. Then push the main body in without depressing the center pin. once the main body is all the way down, push in the center pin till it is flush.

Go buy some new ones. Thems are broke.

When I pushed the center in with a screwdriver, the 'rivet' was still tight, pushing more didn't change it, so I pried the parts with the screwdriver till they came apart. I will try again to re- insert.
Thanks for the ideas!

It isn't broken. It's a upgrade opportunity.

I heard no click- maybe a smaller tool. ...

Nearly 45K on my GS and no issues without radiator guards and I've never read a post where someone on any bike other than dirt bike that had radiator damage from street riding! Farkle :tongue

I rode it on one long ride and have two dents from the wheel tossing small stones into the radiator... Also,it will acquire a permanent stain after a few rides, because it's not black.
I'm getting a fender extender and a rear wheel hugger also, like I did with my R1200GS..

Thanks for the feedback! The pins are nylon and take a lickin'... I reassembled with pin up, and they went togeather with some squeezing to align holes.

Yep! The oil cooler is mounted very low and the fender is very short. I use guards on my S1000RR too :thumbup
I rode it 1 time and had rock damage from the front wheel throwing rocks at it :crazy
